PROGRAMS AND PARTNERSHIPS

At Aspire Education Project we believe that good education involves collaboration at all levels. We have formed productive relationships with several schools and organizations in the East Bay in order to maximize our impact and theirs in enriching our community through education. Below is a partiall list of of our past and present programs.

BENTLEY SCHOOL Aspire Education Project began its partnership with the Bentley Upper School in Lafayette in 2005. Our @Bentley Study Center provides drop-in Supervised Study and one-on-one tutoring. (If you are a parent or student interested in our Bentley services, please go to the Services at Bentley page under Services For Families.)

BUILD Since 2006, AEP has provided trained tutors for BUILD's after-school Academic Incubator. BUILD is an innovative program that combines academic support with entrepreneurial guidance to motivate and re-engage struggling high school students in schools throughout Oakland and on the peninsula. CASTLEMONT HIGH In 2008-2009, AEP coordinated after school services provided through a 21st Century Learning Center federal grant at CBITS and EOSA public high schools in Oakland. AEP also ran tutoring centers at both schools.

COMMUNITY READING BUDDIES AEP runs a teen volunteer literacy program for pre-K through 4th graders at Oakland Child Development Centers. Please see the Community Reading Buddies page for more information. Note: due to funding issues, this program will not be taking place in 2011. We hope to bring it back in 2012.

The EDUCATIONAL GUIDANCE CENTER at UC Berkeley provides outreach to middle and high school students in the Oakland and West Contra Costa Unified School Districts. It is a US Department of Education/TRIO-sponsored program focusing on low income, first-generation college-bound students. Aspire Education Project began its collaboration with EGC in 2005. We provide EGC students with a two-week spring and summer SAT prep program. The program provides students with the academic knowledge needed to do well on the test as well as with strategies and practice. The GOODEN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND (GFSF) believes that all interested students deserve a chance to receive higher education, regardless of their economic status.  Their goal is to increase the participation of low-income, under-represented students at major colleges and universities. GFSF offers financial help and college application support to promising West Contra Costa high school students. Aspire Education Project provides academic and test prep tutoring to GFSF students both individually and in small group classes. In 2010-2012 AEP will be running after-school centers in Richmond high schools as part of the Chevron funded Gooden College Connection STEM Project.
